Komorowski gives parting speech

Outgoing President Bronisław Komorowski gave a speech to the nation before Andrzej Duda takes office on 6 August.

Bronisław Komorowski thanked Poles for his presidency which lasted since 2010.
“My presidency is coming to an end. I would like to thank all those who voted for me five years ago and those who supported me during the last election [in May – ed.],” President Komorowski said.
President Komorowski took office following the tragic death of Lech Kaczyński in the Smolensk plane crash in Russia in 2010. He said that the country quickly managed to get back on its feet “by appointing new commanders of the army, a new head of the central bank and many heads of other central institutions.” The heads of many of these government institutions were killed in the crash.
Bronisław Komorowski stressed that during his period in office, a lot was done in the area of security and defence.
He mentioned, among others, the strengthening of the eastern flank of NATO and increased funding for the Army to a level of two percent of GDP.
The outgoing president appeared on broadcaster TVP and Polish Radio.
Andrzej Duda will assume office on 6 August. (rg/rk)
