The initiative, which also includes building two sandbanks on the river's right bank, is geared towards reintroducing two endangered bird species, the little tern and the common tern.

The project, spearheaded under the LIFE+ wildlife protection scheme, is key to attracting and safeguarding beach-nesting wildlife in Warsaw, long abandoned by the human-shy animals.

Works on the investment, estimated at PLN 2.1 million (EUR 0.5 million), are to be completed by November. (aba/rk)
