Over 4000 people have signed up as volunteers. Most of them are Poles, but pilgrims will also come from countries such as Lithuania, Malaysia, Nigeria and China.

A group of twenty volunteers from Brazil, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Canada, Italy, and France is already in Kraków on a year-long assignment in cooperation with the organizing committee of the World Youth Day.

Delegates from almost 100 countries are to attend a preparatory meeting for the event, scheduled for the end of next month in Kraków, Wadowice (the birthplace of Pope John Paul II) and the nearby pilgrimage centre of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska in southern Poland.

World Youth Day, which runs from 25 to 31 July 2016, is expected to attract over 2 million people from around the world. The largest national groups will come from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, the United States and Germany. (mk/nh/rk)
