Two months ago, Poland pledged to receive about 7,000 people, mainly from Syria and Eritrea, in 2016 and 2017.

“It was not a good decision. The problem does not lie in the number of prospective refugees or migrants, but in the solutions which were adopted indiscriminately, and which may not lead to a genuine solution of the problem,” the Prime Minister said.

She told a press conference following a cabinet meeting that in the wake of the Paris attacks and new alarming reports that come every day, the assessment of the situation has changed. “This is true of not only the Polish government, but of Europe’s international community,” she said.

She reiterated Poland’s commitment to honour its international obligations stemming from membership in the European Union.

“Let’s wait for the meetings that are ahead of us. I myself will take part in such a meeting on Sunday. It is the time for a deeper reflection,” Szydło said. (mk/rg/rk)
