The new bill sees changes to how the heads of national media outlets TVP and Polish Radio are chosen.

According to Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentary-club leader Ryszard Terlecki, it is imperative that the issue is dealt with quickly, as the media cannot constantly criticise the changes in law proposed by PiS.

He argued that public media should not be part of the discussion, but simply accurately convey the news.

The government, which swept to power in the 25 October general election, has promised a general overhaul of both TVP and Polish Radio. The ideas including turning these companies into cultural institutions. (rg)
