Winds cause havoc in Polish mountain resort

Winds of over 100 kph have torn off roofs and knocked down power lines and hundreds of trees in the southern Polish mountain resort of Zakopane.

Several cars were damaged when trees fell on them, while a number of roads were blocked. Firefighters in Zakopane were called out 86 times over 24 hours.

In the Tatra mountains close to Zakopane, winds reached speeds of up to 200 kph between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. (pk)
