A pension of at least PLN 1,000 a month would be much more satisfactory than what is paid out at present, and can be achieved in several stages, says Family, Labour and Social Policy Minister, Elżbieta Rafalska.

At present the minimum pension in Poland stands at PLN 882.56 (approx. EUR 200), according to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS).

“A minimum pension of PLN 1,000 would be much more satisfactory. And this amount can be arrived at in gradual stages,” Rafalska said in an interview.

The minister said that she told a recent meeting of government ministers that the ministry cannot agree to another year of such low pensions in the country. (rg)
