The information was confirmed by the Polish police, adding that items of clothing and personal items found on the body pointed towards a match.

The 26-year-old woman disappeared in late November in Poznań. She was last seen returning from a house party in the vicinity of the Rocha bridge near the city. The man she was with, Adam Z. (name withheld due to Polish privacy laws) is still in police custody, and is suspecting of the woman’s murder.

A police spokesman said that the body, which was in an advanced stage of decomposition, was seen on Monday by a passer-by.

“We were informed about the sighting of the corpse at around 7:30 pm on Monday,” the spokesman for the Wielkapolska police, Andrzej Borowiak, said.

The body was found some 12km down river from the place Tylman was last seen, Borowiak said, adding that that personal items such as shoes and clothing on the body indicate that this could be Tylman’s body.

In November 2015, the city of Poznań organised extensive searches in the area in and around the river to try and find Tylman’s body.

The identity will be confirmed following an autopsy. (rg)
