The medal was auctioned off and the highest bidders were Dominika and Sebastian Kulczyk, the heirs of late billionaire Jan Kulczyk, and currently sharing top stop as Poland’s richest people.

“Dominika and Sebastian Kulczyk have just declared their willingness to buy my silver medal for an amount which enables us to meet the target set. And this is what I wanted most of all,” Małachowski wrote on social media," Małachowski wrote on social media.

The target which was around PLN 482,755 (approximately EUR 112,000) was for an eye operation for the boy abroad.

Earlier this week Małachowski wrote on his Facebook profile: "Shortly after the competition, Gosia, the mother of little Olek, wrote to me asking for help in saving her son. For almost two years Olek […] has been struggling with eye cancer." (rg)
