"It has not been found so far that there was any misuse of the data from the national identification number system. There is no reason for concern," said Ministry of Justice spokesman Sebastian Kaleta on Tuesday.

The security of the national identification number database is being examined by IT experts, while the download of data is investigated for potential irregularities by the Public Prosecutor’s Office as well as district courts.

Although bailiff offices are authorized to download personal data from the national identification number database, concerns were sparked by the sheer amount of downloads, with one office having collected the data of more than 800,000 people since March 2015 alone. (mol/pk)
