Four severely injured as 70 cars pile-up in two crashes in central Poland

At least four people have been severely injured in two pile-ups involving more than 70 cars in central Poland on Thursday.

An official from the local fire department said a total of 32 people were taken to hospital with injuries as a result of the crashes, which involved more than 70 vehicles, including at least five buses and two trucks.

Both accidents happened on a 50-kilometre stretch of expressway between Łódź and Piotrków Trybunalski during heavy early morning fog.

Some 100 police officers and 90 firefighters attended to the accidents.

Police have said road closures could possibly continue into Friday morning. (vb)
