Wind, rain wreaks havok in Poland

Firefighters were called out more than 1,600 times as strong wind and heavy rain wreaked havoc in Poland, a State Fire Service spokesman said on Saturday.

Falling trees and branches injured three pedestrians on Friday, while a fourth person was hurt when his car hit a tree on the road.
The highest number of reports of damage came from Poland's south and southwest, accordig to the fire service spokesman.
More than 250 calls regarded flooding of homes and damage caused by water, but the spokesman said there was no risk of flood.
On Friday, firefighters removed thousands of trees which toppled onto roads and train tracks, pumped water out of basements, protected buildings from flooding and monitored levees. (vb)
