Two-day Polish-British ‘Belvedere Forum’ planned in Warsaw

A two-day Polish-British ‘Belvedere Forum’ begins in Warsaw on Thursday. It is expected to bring together about 120 experts, journalists, MPs and diplomats for a debate on new areas of cooperation after Britain leaves the European Union.

Poland’s deputy Foreign Minister in charge of European affairs, Konrad Szymański, told journalists in Warsaw that Brexit is not about the UK leaving Europe, but the European Union.
He added that Poland will be doing its best to see London remaining as close to Europe as possible in all areas of common interests, such as security and defence.
He described the goal of the Belvedere Forum as giving a fresh impetus to Anglo-Polish dialogue.
UK Ambassador Jonathan Knott echoed Szymański's words saying that after Brexit, Polish-British relations can become even stronger as Britain will need stronger bonds with individual EU members states, particularly with Poland.
He stressed that one area of common interest are issues relating to the presence of the almost one million-strong Polish community in the UK, and to a sizeable group of British people residing in Poland.
The Belvedere Forum is to be held once a year, alternately in Poland and the UK. (mk/rg/pk)
