Donald Tusk, a former prime minister of Poland, was re-elected President of the European Council last week having secured support from 27 of 28 EU countries. The Polish government was the only one to oppose Tusk, and presented an alternative candidate.

Magierowski said: “I am convinced, that once emotions subside, then we can count on cooperation between Presidents Tusk and Duda.”

When asked about the possibility of a meeting, Magierowski replied: “It is not possible to rule out today that there will be such a meeting, but it will definitely not be in the near future, given the schedule of the President [Duda] and no doubt also due to the schedule of President Donald Tusk.”

According to the spokesperson, President Duda supported the MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, who was put forward by the Polish government as an alternative to Donald Tusk.

“[President Duda] believed that the candidacy of Jacek Saryusz-Wolski was a good candidacy, not only for Poland, but for Europe,” Magierowski said.

Magierowski also accused Tusk of not having a vision for the future of Europe, as well as accusing him of being “the candidate of the European elites.”
