Eighteen Belarusians injured in coach crash on Polish motorway

Eighteen Belarusian citizens were injured after a coach in they were travelling veered off a Polish motorway and into a ditch early on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place between Łódź in central Poland and Warsaw.

All the injured were taken to hospitals in the two cities. One person was transported to hospital by air ambulance, police said.

The coach with a total of 41 Belarusian citizens aboard was returning from a trip to Prague, according to Adam Kolasa, a press spokesman for the regional police headquarters in Łódź.

The coach, “driving along the A2 motorway towards Warsaw... for unknown reasons drove onto the side of the road and then slipped off an embankment into a ditch,” Kolasa said.

Police said the coach driver was sober.
