The spokesman, Krzysztof Łapiński, said that no previous US president had visited Poland so soon after assuming office.

He said that to Trump’s second foreign visit, which will see him in Warsaw ahead of the G20 summit in Germany, spoke volumes about the high esteem with which the countries regarded each other.

Trump is expected to sit down with Duda to talk both military and trade security.

Łapiński said that American military presence in Poland guaranteed security and that Duda wants US forces to stay in the country for as long as possible.

Poland has seen Russia as an increasing threat in Central and Eastern Europe following its annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Łapiński also said the presidents would talk energy security, which would also boost trade ties.

Poland recently received its first shipment of LNG from the US. Łapiński said he “can imagine” a long-term supply contract being signed.

Poland has been seeking to diversify its gas supplies to curb its dependence on Russia for energy.

Trump arrives in Warsaw on Wednesday and leaves for a G20 summit in Germany on Thursday. (vb/pk)
