"The president of the United States came out here, in Poland, in Warsaw, and said to the whole world that he de facto guarantees Poland’s security, that Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty is extremely important, that it is in force," President Duda said in an interview for Polish national broadcaster TVP1 on Friday.

Duda was also impressed by the many references to Poland’s difficult past in Trump’s speech.

"Mentioning our national heroism, our (…) unwavering struggle for freedom (…) – in this respect this speech was amazing when it comes to speeches of American presidents," said Duda.

Trump flew into Warsaw late on Wednesday and met Polish and regional leaders on Thursday before heading to a G20 Summit in Hamburg. (mol/pk)
