Poland’s ruling conservatives well ahead in polls

Poland’s ruling conservative Law and Justice party is backed by 35 percent of voters, according to a survey by Kantar Public for public broadcaster TVP.

The Civic Platform, the largest opposition party, can count on 21 percent support.
In comparison with a similar survey carried three months ago, Law and Justice’s rating went up by 4 percentage points and that of Civic Platform fell by 8 percentage points.
According to Kantar Public, only two other parties would enter parliament: Kukiz ‘15 with 11 percent, and Nowoczesna (Modern) with 10 percent.
Meanwhile, 44 percent of respondents said that the economy is in a better shape under the current government of Prime Minister Beata Szydło, whereas 34 percent of Poles praised the previous cabinets of Donald Tusk and Ewa Kopacz for their handling of the economy.
Twenty-two percent of respondents had no opinion on the matter.
Poland’s next parliamentary elections are scheduled for 2019.
The survey was carried out between July 22 and 24 on a representative sample of 1,000 voters over 18, using computer-assisted telephone interviews. (mk/pk)
