Eurostat said that one in three people in the EU could not afford a week-long holiday.

The agency added that over the past five years the proportion of people who could not afford a one-off annual holiday away from home has fallen in all EU member states, except Cyprus, Denmark and Greece.

The biggest drop was recorded in Latvia from over 63 percent five years ago to 37 percent last year.

Poland was second in this respect. Nearly 20 percent more Polish citizens are now able to afford a week-long vacation away from home than in 2011.
