Polish President Andrzej Duda’s popularity ratings have risen substantially, according to a new survey.

The study, by pollster IBRiS for the Rzeczpospolita daily, found 56.6 percent of respondents viewed Duda’s performance as either "fairly positive" or "decisively positive," the highest figure since the president took office in August 2015.

In July, Duda’s job approval stood at 47.3 percent, according to IBRiS.

The surge is most likely due to Duda’s vetoes of two contested judicial reforms in July, the pollster’s Marcin Duma told Rzeczpospolita.

The president can count on a further rise in popularity if he manages to midwife a reasonable compromise on legal changes, Rzeczpospolita said. (gs/pk)
