Downpours cause flooding in Poland

Firefighters in Poland said on Friday they had been called out more than 550 times over the last 24 hours after heavy rain caused flooding, especially in the south of the country.

Fire crews were summoned to pump out water from cellars, secure buildings and to reinforce flood defences.
They also removed several hundred trees felled by winds across the country.
Polish rivers exceeded levels at which alerts are triggered in 25 locations, firefighters said.
