Polish MPs reject call to fire agriculture minister

Polish MPs on Wednesday rejected a call for the country’s agriculture and rural development minister to be fired.

The opposition Polish People’s Party (PSL), many of whose voters come from rural areas, had submitted a motion for a vote of no-confidence in Krzysztof Jurgiel.
The PSL accused Jurgiel of conducting “harmful policies in rural areas in Poland, demonstrating inaction, helplessness and hopelessness as minister."
But Prime Minister Beata Szydło defended Jurgiel, telling MPs in a debate: "This is a very good minister in my government, one of the best."
