Strengthening Polish industry is a key priority for the government, Prime Minister Beata Szydło said on Wednesday, exactly two years after her conservative Law and Justice party swept to victory in parliamentary elections.

Szydło said that under an ambitious strategy for economic development crafted by Polish Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, "the most important economic priority for Poland is the rapid development of and building up Polish industry."

She was speaking while taking part in a ceremony marking the start of work on constructing a new production line at a plant belonging to the Mostostal steel goods producer in Siedlce, eastern Poland.

Szydło said that PiS won elections in late 2015 because it "listened to the voice of Poles".

She added: “One of the issues that was very important was development, the economy, sustainable development, giving an equal opportunity to all... not just to narrow interest groups, elites, but giving everyone a chance."
