The Polish League Against Defamation has urged volunteers around the world to help “defend Poland’s good name” and join efforts to counter historically inaccurate and defamatory terms used by some international media.

The organisation made the appeal at a conference in Warsaw that summed up several months of efforts to track and oppose false information appearing in foreign media.

Those attending the “Support Poland!” conference on Saturday included Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who thanked expatriate Poles for blowing the whistle on foreign media using misleading wording in reference to German death camps that suggests a Polish role in Nazi German crimes during World War II.

Morawiecki, who is also development and finance minister, said that “Poland should take legal action against all those powerful foreign media organisations that still dare use” misnomers such as "Polish" death camps.

Maciej Świrski, the founder of the Polish League Against Defamation and deputy head of the Polish National Foundation, said that “Poland is being unfairly attacked by hostile media” abroad.

As an example he cited critical reports by various Western media outlets after a Polish Independence March.
