“The defendant made preparations [for the attack] from 2014 to 2017,” the national prosecutor's office said.

The man had amassed nearly 300 kilograms of dangerous substances, including 33 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, which is used to produce explosives, and over 52 kilograms of pentaerythritol, a compound that can be used in making bombs more potent than TNT, niezalezna.pl reported.

The man had also amassed 25 firearms in his home, among them an automatic weapon, 25,000 rounds of ammunition and leaflets calling on Poles to “renounce obedience” to the country’s authorities, according to niezalezna.pl.

In 2015, a university lecturer was sentenced to 13 years in prison for planning to blow up the Polish parliament. He was the first Pole to be accused of terrorism.
