Parliament adopts bill on e-prescriptions

All pharmacies in the country are to adapt to processing e-prescriptions by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, all healthcare professionals will be required to send prescriptions directly from their medical records to pharmacies by the end of 2019.
On Monday, deputy health minister Janusz Cieszyński said that physicians issue 160 million prescriptions for subsidised medication annually in Poland.
“An e-prescription cannot be lost, destroyed and also, most importantly, they cannot be tampered with or falsified,” Cieszyński added on Tuesday.
Patients will no longer have to make doctor’s appointments to have their prescriptions extended, Cieszyński said.
“According to our estimates, in many doctor's surgeries 30 percent of appointments are for the extension of a prescription.” (aba/pk)
