Krasnodębski will replace Polish Eurodeputy Ryszard Czarnecki, who lost his job as vice-president last month after comparing a fellow MEP from Poland to a WWII informer denouncing Jews to the Nazis.
Czarnecki likened Róża Thun, a Eurodeputy with Poland’s opposition Civic Platform (PO) party, to an informer preying on Jews during the Holocaust.
In a secret vote on Thursday, 276 MEPs voted for Krasnodębski, while 193 backed his rival for the post of vice-president, Estonian MEP Indrek Tarand of the European Green Party.
