The head of the expedition, Krzysztof Wielicki, said on Facebook that the team would not attempt K2, adding that the climbers’ safety was a priority.

Wielicki also said that the weather forecast was unfavourable, and that the risk of an avalanche was high.

The team currently comprises ten Poles, after Jarosław Botor left citing family reasons, Rafał Fronia was taken to hospital with a broken arm and Denis Urubko quit following a failed solo attempt after breaking away from his group. (vb/pk)
