Poland aims to cut bureaucracy, ministers face the axe

Polish Premier Mateusz Morawiecki said on Monday he wants to cut the number of government ministers and deputy ministers by up to a quarter in a drive to reduce bureaucracy.

Morawiecki told reporters he also wants to get rid of bonuses for ministers and deputy ministers.
"An efficient and effective state is a state that operates on the basis of very professional staff, not on extensive bureaucracy," Morawiecki said at a press conference.
"That is why we will try to reduce bureaucracy at all levels. We are starting with ourselves. We are starting with ministers and deputy ministers," he added.
Morawiecki said Poland currently has 126 ministers and deputy ministers.
"In the next few months - two or three - we want to reduce this number by 20-25 percent," he told reporters.
