The bodies of 77 victims of the 2010 Polish presidential jet crash have been exhumed so far in an on-going probe into the causes of the tragedy.

Ewa Bialik, a spokeswoman for the state prosecution service, told a press conference in Warsaw that two bodies had been wrongly identified and consequently buried in the wrong graves.

Tests have shown that a total of 69 parts of 26 bodies have been found in the coffins of other people, Bialik said.

Bialik added that objects such as disposable gloves, pieces of string, bottles, and phials with sanitizing agents had been found in many of the bodies.

The remains of all uncremated victims are to be exhumed.

The remaining exhumations are to be carried out by the middle of May.

Tuesday marked exactly eight years since a Polish plane carrying then-President Lech Kaczyński, his wife and 94 others – including top political and military figures – crashed near Smolensk, western Russia, killing all those on board.
