Officers from Poland’s Central Bureau of Police Investigation (CBŚP) say the gang may have defrauded victims out of 1 PLN million (USD 295,000, EUR 240,000) in total.

Police detained the suspected leader of the gang, a 26-year-old named only as “Angelo M,” in a Warsaw hotel. Other suspected members of the gang were detained in nearby towns.

The suspected conmen allegedly contacted victims and pretended to be police officers on the trail of criminals.

The suspected conmen then allegedly persuaded the victims to hand over large sums of money which they said were needed to catch the criminals red-handed.
