Nearly 2,000 representatives of local governing bodies, government officials, entrepreneurs and NGOs from across Europe are expected to take part in the event, the organisers, the Foundation Institute for Eastern Studies, said on their website.

The congress will feature 70 debates, panel discussions and meetings between local government officials, politicians and experts from various fields.

The attendees are to discuss issues such as public transport in cities, regulations aimed at fighting corruption and collaboration between local governments and entrepreneurs.

Also, Polish political parties are to present their programmes ahead of local elections, scheduled to take place this autumn. (aba/gs)
