Five missing after tremor in Polish coal mine

Five miners were missing after a tremor hit a coal mine in southern Poland on Saturday, according to reports.

Two other miners trapped underground at the Zofiówka coal mine in the southern town of Jastrzębie-Zdrój have been found alive by rescuers, according to Daniel Ozon, CEO of the Jastrzębie Coal Company.
The two were hurt but conscious, and rescuers carried them to safety on stretchers, a spokeswoman for the company, Katarzyna Jabłońska-Bajer, said, as cited by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
Rescuers continued to search for the five remaining miners trapped some 900 metres underground, IAR reported.
The powerful 3.4 magnitude tremor occurred at around 11 am on Saturday and was also felt on the surface in areas far from the mine, according to reports.
