Poland’s Supreme Court on Wednesday acquitted a man who spent 18 years in prison over the murder and rape of a 15-year-old girl.

Tomasz Komenda had been given a 25-year sentence for the 1996 killing.

The parents of the victim last year asked Poland’s justice minister to reconsider the case. An investigation was reopened and prosecutors concluded that Komenda had not committed the crime.

Another man has been arrested and charged with the killing.
