Police in Poland said on Wednesday they have detained 17 people in total over crowd trouble at a high-profile football match during which fans invaded the pitch.

The tally includes six people detained previously.

The referee suspended a premier-league match on Sunday between Lech Poznań and Legia Warsaw in the 77th minute after a group of Lech supporters set off flares, causing thick smoke to belch out across the pitch.

Fans ran out into the field -- an offence that in Poland can be punished by three years in jail -- and were chased off by some 200 riot police. Football authorities awarded Legia a 3-0 win by default.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said he expects decisive action to be taken against hooligans.

Regional authorities have punished Lech Poznań by ordering it to close its stadium to the public for eight games, both Polish league and Europa League matches.

Police said more people were likely to be detained over the crowd trouble.
