Hot weather and clear skies have seen large numbers of people taking to lakes and rivers to cool off.
But because the summer season is yet to officially start, “many beaches are still not manned by lifesavers,” police spokesman Mariusz Ciarka said.
“If we are not sure of our swimming abilities we should only go to beaches where there are lifesavers,” he added.
In total, 101 people have drowned in Poland since April 1.
Last year’s drowning toll was 442. (vb/pk)
