The head of a Polish think tank will not be allowed to enter Russia for World Cup matches, the Russian foreign ministry has told Polish Radio.

Last week Sławomir Dębski, director of the Polish Institute of International Affairs, had his five-year visa cancelled and was told that he would not be allowed to visit Russia for a period of three years.

Dębski said, however, that he hoped he would be able to attend the matches as the owner of a "Fan ID," a document issued by the World Football Federation FIFA that permits access to stadiums without a Russian entry visa.

Polish Radio has been told by the press section of the Russian Foreign Ministry that Dębski would not be allowed to visit Russia.

As a political analyst and expert on Polish-Russian relations, Dębski was previously a frequent guest in Russia.
