Poland to plough PLN 1.3 bn into local roads this year: PM

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Monday his conservative government would earmark PLN 1.3 billion (USD 359m, EUR 305m) for building and renovating local roads this year.

"Poland is not only the big conurbations and the roads between them ... we are looking at the [local] development needs of Poland,” Morawiecki said during a meeting with regional officials.

He added that small municipalities, “so far often neglected, forgotten, will have much better access to public transport facilities, to investment, and therefore to development opportunities.”

The PLN 1.3 billion that will be set aside by the government for local roads this year is PLN 500 million more than originally planned, Poland's PAP news agency reported.
