The Tatra National Park authorities want hikers to practice responsible tourism.

Visitors will be able to pick up special biodegradable bags at entry points to the park so they can collect any garbage they see.

The new campaign is entitled "Rubbish is a lofty topic—no trash, no trace, no hesitation."

The Tatra mountains are popular with Poles both in the summer and winter. Almost 70,000 visitors flocked there in July, some 10,000 fewer than last year, public broadcaster Polish Radio has reported.

Tatra National Park officials said heavy rainfall at the end of June and the first two weeks of July deterred many holidaymakers.
