Dozens of teams of students from 20 countries signed up for the fourth European Rover Challenge, one of the world's largest events of its kind.

The winning squad came from the Kielce University of Technology, south of Warsaw. The challenge was held from Friday to Sunday in the Polish city of Starachowice.

The award was handed to the winners by Poland's Science and Higher Education Minister Jarosław Gowin, who is also a deputy prime minister.

Poland aims to develop its own satellite systems and space technology under a draft programme unveiled by a government agency at the end of last year.
