The drills followed exercises in which several hundred soldiers, police officers and firefighters on Tuesday practiced responding to a radioactive contamination threat.

Under the scenario, a Berlin-Warsaw train pulled into a rail station in the Polish capital, where it was surrounded by a police cordon.

Wagons were checked for radiation and passengers were directed to special tents for decontamination.
