Rescuers were searching for eight missing workers believed to be trapped underground after a tremor hit a copper mine in south-western Poland on Tuesday.
The tremor struck 770 metres underground at the Rudna mine, owned by state-run copper producer KGHM, at around 2pm, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.
Seven people suffered non life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospitals.
A total of 32 miners were near the epicentre when the tremor struck, Polish media reported. Twelve rescue teams were dispatched to the mine.
Three years ago, eight people died after a tremor at the Rudna mine, in the south-western town of Polkowice.
In December last year, 13 miners, including 12 Poles, died in a methane blast at a Czech coal mine in Karvina, close to the southern Polish border.
