Addressing the two-day international gathering in the Polish capital, Mateusz Morawiecki said that his country was “committed to play its role in addressing refugee and humanitarian challenges, but most of all peace challenges in the Middle East.”

He told those at Warsaw’s National Stadium that “to avoid conflicts that result in refugee and humanitarian crises, we must ensure stability and sustainability in the region.”

Morawiecki added: “And we must employ politics when we talk about it – because peace is, in the end, a political good.”

Foreign ministers and senior officials from 63 nations were meeting in Warsaw on Wednesday and Thursday to discuss issues such as missile proliferation, energy security, emerging cyber-based threats, counterterrorism, migration crises and humanitarian aid.

On the sidelines of the event, jointly hosted by the United States and Poland, Morawiecki on Thursday met politicians including US Vice President Mike Pence.

He also held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Morawiecki, Pence and Netanyahu together visited Warsaw’s Museum of the History of Polish Jews and laid wreaths at a monument in the Polish capital to honour Jews who in 1943 took up arms in an uprising against Poland’s Nazi German invaders.
