Scientists from Łódź, central Poland, claim that the method enables doctors to diagnose cancer and determine its malignancy in real time, without posing a threat to patients’ health.

The Polish Laboratory of Laser Molecular Spectroscopy (LLSM) in Łódź says the innovative method of so-called optical biopsy is ready for commercial use.

The test does not require removing tissue. It involves exposing tissue believed to be cancerous to light and then analysing the reflected light.

Scientists say that it is important to make the method available to patients as soon as possible.
