Firefighters said they were called out 1,150 times to remove fallen trees and deal with the aftermath of powerful winds.

The gales damaged the roofs of 680 buildings nationwide, Paweł Frątczak, a spokesman for the State Fire Service, said on Monday morning.

Almost 400,000 customers were without electricity at one point, most of them in the southern Małopolskie and Śląskie provinces, according to the Government Centre for Security (RCB).
