The head of the union, Piotr Duda, announced the protests on Wednesday at a press conference, Poland’s PAP news agency has reported.

Duda called the union’s demands the “Solidarity Five,” in an echo of spending plans pledged by Jarosław Kaczyński, the head of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party.

The plans have been dubbed the “Kaczyński Five” by the media.

Polish Interior Minister Joachim Brudziński said: “We are always ready to hold talks with Mr Duda.”
