The figure accounts for 65 percent of the country’s total population and marks an increase of 2 million from last year, Poland’s PAP news agency reported on Friday, citing a study by pollster Ipsos Polska.

Of those who plan to go away on a vacation, 48 percent want to travel abroad, while 52 percent intend to vacation domestically, the survey, commissioned by insurer Mondial Assistance, found.

Croatia, Greece and Spain are set to be the most popular foreign destinations with Poles this summer, the PAP news agency reported, citing the study’s findings.

The survey was carried out from May 6 to 24 on a representative, nationwide sample of 2,000 respondents.

Poland's state-owned airline LOT last week launched a new direct flight from Warsaw to Miami in the US state of Florida.

LOT spokesman Adrian Kubicki said at the time: "Poles are getting richer, and so more and more of them want to take an exotic holiday trip."
