Four people were taken to a hospital with injuries, one of them by air ambulance, after the accident on the A6 motorway near the city of Szczecin on Sunday afternoon.

Some of the cars in the crash caught fire.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the truck hit a passenger car, causing a pile-up involving seven vehicles, state news agency PAP reported.

Joanna Biranowska-Sochalska, a spokeswoman for prosecutors in Szczecin, said that, given the seriousness of the accident, the driver could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
