Poland's World Cup team head to Russia

Poland’s national football squad has left for base camp in Sochi on Russia’s Black Sea coast, where they will train before competing in the World Cup.

The players were seen off by fans at Warsaw’s Chopin airport on Wednesday morning.

Defender Artur Jędrzejczyk said that a win over Lithuania in a friendly on Tuesday boosted the Poles’ confidence, while striker Dawid Kownacki said the team still had a little time left to fine-tune its game.

Poland on Tuesday notched up a comfortable 4-0 victory against Lithuania in their last friendly fixture ahead of the World Cup in Russia.

They drew 2-2 with Chile in another pre-World Cup friendly in the western city of Poznań on Friday.

The World Cup kicks off on Thursday and runs until July 15.

Poland play Senegal on June 19, before facing Colombia on June 24 and Japan on June 28 in the group stage of the tournament. (vb/pk)
